Electromagnetic Scattering Theory and Applications of Polarimetric Radar Remote Sensing

Chairs: Dr.Yanlei Du (Aerospace Information Research Institute, CAS), Prof. Jian Yang (Tsinghua University)

Abstract:

Polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (SAR), benefited from its advantages of abundant polarization information, high resolution and capability with all-time and all-weather, etc., has been widely adopted in remote sensing applications. In particular, with the significant development of polarimetric SAR instruments and the rapid emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques, polarimetric SAR has attracted intensive attentions in remote sensing of land, ocean, polar and other Earth surface regions. This session focuses on latest developments in electromagnetic scattering models for polarimetric SAR and polarimetric radar theory, and advances in their pertinent remote sensing applications. The topics include, but are not limited to, advanced theories of electromagnetic scattering, SAR imaging and polarization decomposition, emergent methods for polarimetric SAR image classification and segmentation, technical innovations of compact polarimetry and relevant applications, advances in applications of polarimetric SAR in target detection and parameter retrieval with AI techniques.
